Every day is Indigenous Peoples Day! Indigenous land day! Indigenous culture day! Yesterday, in Big Tujunga - Tuxuunga, the land of the old woman, we came together to celebrate Indigenous people, land, and culture. We are deeply grateful to all the Indigenous culture bearers who shared their knowledge, wisdom, guidance, language, workshops, and stories with participants. We are especially grateful to Tina Orduno Calderon and Lazaro Arvizu Jr., whose advice and guidance were invaluable throughout the planning of this event. We are grateful for all the organizations who shared their resources, books, and activities. Thank you to the vendors and chefs! We are grateful to the many volunteers, including Redrum and Red Spirit, Joe DeCenzo, Gerardo, Mary and her family, Claire Gordon, Abby, Patriciaa, L El Faunt, Corey Stein, and so many others who generously gave their time and energy to make this happen. To all the donors and supporters, including our elected officials, thank you for your trust and generosity. Lastly, to our organizers, Tina, Lazaro, ABRA and ST Forward, what an honor to have worked on this with you all.

We are so excited to finally share the design that will be printed on our commemorative t-shirts! It celebrates Tuxuu, the place of the old woman, and our relative the mule deer, which often comes to say hi when we do cleanups in Big Tujunga. Come get your t-shirt next Sunday at the Sunland-Tujunga Indigenous Peoples Day at the ST Forward table. Join us for this special celebration of Indigenous land, people and culture. We are feeling grateful for all the folks (some pictured here) who showed up today and gave their time to get the land ready for the Sunland-Tujunga 2023 Indigenous Peoples Day. Thank you to all the volunteers who watered saplings, removed invasive plants, prepared the parking area, planned a plant walk, gathered trash, and helped create a welcoming place for next Sunday's event.

Thank you also to Chief Ranger Gomez and his amazing team at the MRCA for all their help and support! Thank you to Indigenous culture bearer Tina Orduno Calderon for spreading the word about the cleanup and helping build new bridges! Folks came from across the city to be with us today. What a great day.
