LAND STEWARDSHIP:
TUXU WORKING GROUP

We believe in building a caring relationship with Tuxu (Mother Earth in the Tongva language) as  stewards of this un-ceded Tongva land, its plants, and creatures. Participate in guided neighborhood walks and hikes with native plant experts to learn about native plants and creatures. Volunteer on habitat restoration and plant or maintain native gardens in our community. Learn about all the different ways we can build relationships of stewardship and care with our local ecosystems honoring traditional knowledge and contemporary scientific best practices to minimize our contributions to climate change, deforestation and environment destruction.

UPCOMING PROJECT
INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY - 2022
Sunland-Tujunga Forward is co-organizing Indigenous Peoples’ Day 2022. On Sunday, October 9, 2022 we honor the Indigenous Peoples. This event will include Indigenous presenters, storytellers, performances, and vendors. The location is especially meaningful as we have come full circle with the land. 111 acres were preserved for public use thanks to the activism of local residents and Indigenous groups.
This event is free and open to the public. We hope you will join us on these sacred grounds in this joyous celebration. Event location is at 12400 Big Tujunga Canyon Rd. Tujunga, CA 91042.
Donations are greatly appreciated and will help us pay for MRCA required site fee and honoraria for the presenters.
