It was a beautiful morning in Big Tujunga Canyon for the Tuxu Land Restoration Work Group of ST Forward. This property was saved from the development of hundreds of homes by our neighborhood land use activists. A huge victory! This last Sunday more than 50 volunteers showed up to shower the land with their love and care. This land restoration project is led by the vision and guidance of Indigenous culture bearers Lazaro Arvizu and Tina Calderon, and in close collaboration with the MRCA.

We were able to remove 20+ castor bean, a highly invasive plant in the area. We also removed grass under the grandma oak and the 11 recently planted black walnut and coast live oak seedlings.

We are grateful to all the volunteers and the various organizations who joined us! Tawa, Kids 4 Freedom and Justice, NoCanyonHills, Soil Sponge, Roger with the Sunland Welcome Garden, and The Birdhouse. It was a wonderful day in the company of great people who were there in right relationship to the beautiful land, and our plant and animal relatives.

The Tuxu Land Restoration work group meets at Big Tujunga the last Sunday of every month. Hope to see you there on April 30th!
